Who Am I?
Hello, my name is Sue Hodgetts and I work as a private tutor in Wedmore, Somerset. I am an experienced teacher, having been teaching in the classroom for 11 years. I give individual, tailored support to primary children in their own homes. I do this on a weekly basis in order to boost their numeracy or literacy skills, in a child-friendly way. If you live in Wedmore or its surrounding villages, or further afield such as Wells or Cheddar, then please give me a call to discuss your requirements.
My Teaching Philosophy
Children learn best when not under pressure, with their learning aimed at just above their current working level. When they see themselves making progress in a short space of time, their motivation and self-esteem rises above expectations.
All children have different learning styles and it takes a little time and patience to adapt teaching to suit an individual. This is much easier on a one to one basis than in a busy classroom situation.
Teaching different strategies, that can be applied in a range of situations, is the key to successful tutoring. This enables the child to take responsibility for their own decisions on how to tackle different questions that are posed to them, with confidence.
I use up to date materials taken from the National Curriculum in order to supplement the work that the children do in school. I assess using a variety of methods, including age-related testing and verbal discussion with the child. A tailor-made plan is then drawn up to provide the child with the best solution to build on already developing skills, and to bridge the gaps that may be hindering their best progress.
